In a previous post we discussed technology lulling you into working too remotely.  We briefly discussed the value of the face to face meeting in certain situations.  When it comes to real estate, is technology diluting that profession?

With the advent of web applications, databases, data mining, artificial intelligence, etc, real estate as a face to face profession may be practically vanishing.  Think about it:  When someone wants to look at a house, they perform a search online and discover many web applications that have databases full of homes on the market listed by both real estate companies and individuals.  Before technology, you would have had to call around or drive around to find homes for sale and look at the homes.  Now, you can do a virtual tour, view pictures, and even interact with the owner from the comfort of your computer or smartphone.

As a real estate agent, you will need to provide some unique service to stay relevant to today’s technology happy consumer.  Do you have your own website showing the value you provide?  Is your own technology on par?  Avantech has a unique service called Business In A Box that is perfect for real estate agents and other small business owners.  Business in a box is everything you need to get your business started or increase your current business’s bottom line through technology.

What role would today’s real state agent play with today’s technology happy consumer?  That seems to be the challenge.
